Sometimes it goes your way… sometimes not…
Un grande Campione:
We finished 7th overall in the Star Worlds in Rio. The British team won, Swizz 2nd and Brazil 3rd. The top ranked Brazilian boat finished 9th and that also shows that the conditions were hard.
After 4 hours of sleep(I can never sleep after big race) your mind is in some sense all ready looking for new challengers and you want to start working on what you can improve.
A few main areas we need to improve is; better communications onboard, racing on one way track and we also need to improve our pointing ability.
1st communication, Johan and I are still a new team and to get maximum performance out of the boat we need speak more and understand each other better.
This is key!
2nd racing on one way track, the racing area was all week favored on one side, you have to be extremely patient and really just looking for the smaller gains. I’m better sailor in more oscillating condition so we need as a team practice more on one way race tracks.
3rd pointing ability, this means how close to the wind you can sail upwind. We had some problems after the starts to hold our lines(track). Our VMG (velocity made good) on more open waters is great but in tight situations we need to improve.
So, finishing 5th nation, with actually three Brazilian team ahead(lot of local knowledge) I’m all ready looking fwd to start building up for next race(I will have a break though). Johan and I are on the race course again end of March in Spain, before then training in Malcesine, Italy.
Best sailing regards – Freddy
