Ecco la cronaca del match appena concluso (by louisvouittontrophy.org)

1045 – Next up is an interesting match – Emirates Team New Zealand (4-0) against Azzurra (3-1). There will be approximately a 30 minute delay before the next race.
1120 – The fix-it squad is dealing with a winch issue on one of the boats, so we remain in a holding pattern.
1130 – All seems to be working on board both boats now – warning signal is expected at 1140.
1143 – We’re into the start sequence. Kiwi rugby legend Dan Carter is the 18th man on Emirates Team New Zealand for this match against Azzurra. This is an important race, a win for Azzurra would put them into a tie at the top of the table with ETNZ.
1145 – Into a dial-up here. ETNZ came in on port tack and need to keep clear. Azzurra doing a nice job of keeping TNZ in position here. The Kiwis a little bit forward here. Azzurra sheeting on now…
1145 – Into a dial-up here. ETNZ came in on port tack and need to keep clear. Azzurra doing a nice job of keeping TNZ in position here. The Kiwis a little bit forward here. Azzurra sheeting on now…
1148 – With two minutes to go, ETNZ gybe away from Azzurra and lead out towards the committe boat with the Italians chasing.
1150 – Kiwis with the hook with just under a minute to to, pushing Azzurra towards the line hard. Azzurra forced to the right. The Kiwis have won the left, and we’ve heard there is a bias on the line favouring the pin. A luff from the Kiwis force Azzurra to tack – split start. Kiwis left, Italians right. Early advantage to TNZ in this one.
1153 -This is shaping up to be a very big split. One of the biggest we’ve ever seen. They’re over 1000 metres apart now. But the good news for the Italians is the advantage line is coming down rapidly. If the breeze goes right, Azzurra is in great shape. If it stays left, the Kiwis will lead.
1154 – ETNZ have tacked now, while Azzurra continue on port tack, all the way out to the right side of the race course.
1157 – Azzurra tack, but the advantage lies with NZ again. This is likely to be a big lead for the kiwis. All of that separation is coming back to bite the Italians now. It was a gutsy call by Bruni and his tactician Tomasso Chieffi, but ultimately, it hasn’t paid off.
1159 – Team New Zealand is around the top with an enormous lead. They’ve gybed – but NO – the spinnaker pole is broken.
1201 – Azzurra has to come from a long way back. For TNZ, this isn’t fatal, the spinnaker is still flying, but the pole can’t be used again. This will make for a small advantage downwind for Azzurra, but it’s not clear that they’ll be able to gain enough.
1202 – A nice job by TNZ in getting the foredeck cleared up while maintaining their focus on the race. Azzurra has closed the gap a little bit, but it was a huge lead for ETNZ at the top mark – they still look safe here.
1205 – ETNZ approaching the gate now, still up by over 200 metres. The spinnaker comes down now, a good drop, and ETNZ take the left side of the gate, which remains favoured with this left shift that we’ve had during this race.
1208 – The Race Committee has shifted the top mark to the left, squaring up the course.
1212 – ETNZ still holding a good margin, but if the downwind run is square to the wind now, the Italians may be able to make a charge.
1214 – Kiwis around the top mark now, still with a nice lead, but no pole. They’re around the mark while Azzurra is making two extra tacks to get around the mark – that will be costly.
1215 – Azzurra is 56 seconds behind. Those last couple of tacks cost the Italians about 15 or 20 seconds. TNZ has gybed. A good bear away set on Azzurra who will be trying to sail deeper with that pole, saving distance over TNZ.
1217 – The Kiwis have made another gybe now, heading for the middle of the race course. They’ve executed well, and Azzurra is struggling to make inroads here.
1222 – Azzurra have put their spinnaker in the water now. It’s under the boat, which is stopped in the water.
1224 -ETNZ win the race with ease, at the cost of a broken spinnaker pole. While Azzurra will need to spend a lot of time in the sail loft tonight, in an effort to repair the sail. This will also impact our timing on the next race.
1230 – So Azzurra drops to 3-2, while ETNZ is unbeaten at 5-0.
