Checco… la nostra immensità…

Dopo una giornata terribile eccola tutta la Classe straordinaria che caratterizza l’immenso Checco Nazionale, che stende di mezzo metro un incredulo Mirsky, il quale incassa il colpo e lascia ogni speranza per la vittoria finale del Circuito.

Il World Match Racing Tour vivrà domani tra le 3 e le 10 del mattino il momento più atteso, un match atteso da tutti noi tifosi appassionati di vela, del Tricolore, e degli amici che navigano con Checco.

Infatti il Bruni Racing (Bruni, De Felice, Auguadro, Bortoletto, Mantovani) si scontrerà nei quarti di finale contro Williams che è il diretto avversario per la vittoria finale.

Sarà sicuramente un match emozionante che potremo vivere dal vivo dal sito http://www.vsail.info/

Comincia alla grande il Checco nazionale con un ottimo 5-2 che colloca il Bruni Racing Team davanti ai diretti avversari nella classifica del WMRT.

La notizia del giorno però è anche lo “sbottonamento” del Checco che durante un’intervista a vSail.info dichiara che sarà il Tattico di Luna Rossa nella prossima Coppa e diciamocelo era nell’aria, ma è una gran bella News.

WMRT – Portimao “Per Checco Bruni ancora una semifinale”

Ultimo giorno a Portimao per la tappa del World Match Race Tour, e ancora una volta Checco agguanta la Semifinale e si troverà difronte il francese Richard, mentre nell’altra semifinale Ian William se la vedrà contro lo svedese Berntsson. Una situazione ideale per incrementare il vantaggio sui diretti inseguitori nella classifica generale del WMRT, rimasti tutti al “palo” nel corso dei quarti di finale.

In due anni la tecnica di Checco in fatto di match race ha raggiunto vette mondiali e non fa che ribadire la straordinaria eccleticità dello skipper siciliano e del suo grande Team.

La prima regata di semifinale lo ha visto dominare Richard, per chi vuole seguire live l’evento… basta un Click qui…

Welcome to Finals Day at Portimao Portugal Match Cup. We have a beautiful day with a 12 knot wind from the East with a temperature in the high twenties. We had the draw this morning an Ian Williams elected to sail Johnie Berntsson. I spoke to Johnie last night and he though that Ian might pick him and if the roles were reversed he would have chosen Ian. Mathieu Richard will sail Francesco Bruni in the other semi final.
The boats are about to leave the dock and hopefully we’ll have things under way by 10.30.

Su Sailing Anarchy lo hanno definito “Minimalista”, per me è l’immagine dell’ESSENZA della Vela, l’immagine del perchè la Coppa America dovrebbe essere disputata con dei monoscafi e non con delle macchine da “avanspettacolo”.

Pensate se quella mente fulgida di Larry Allison avesse deciso di utilizzare il TP52 per la Coppa America… allora si che avremmo visto il “PIU’ GRANDE SPETTACOLO DOPO IL BIG BANG…”

Avevamo l’uomo a bordo:

E’ stato il momento piu’ emozionante della finale, noi in un brutta posizione ad un minuto dallo start. Lenti, Checco con pochissimo timone ed il pier a meno di una lunghezza.
Con grande patema di tutti… Si stramba! Per la cronaca siamo passati a 30 cm dal pier…con grande gioia degli americani sul molo!
Purtroppo bisognava prendere la destra …e non ci siamo riusciti!
Alzare il volume !!!

I nostri portacolori l’hanno vinta lo scorso anno e, senza essere sotto le insegne di possibili consorzi di coppa, ci riprovano.
Il nostro inviato è direttamente on board, quindi senz’altro accreditato per ogni possibile commento e riflessione.

“Questa e’ la Congressional Cup

Un’evento che coinvolge tutti i soci di un prestigioso yacht club (Long Beach) e che non smette mai di stupire!
Di regate ne abbiamo fatte tante, di magnifici club ne abbiamo frequentati ma… l’ospitalità che troviamo in questo anglo di California non ha paragoni al mondo!
Long Beach e’ periferia di Los Angeles, un po’ finta a ben vedere, con i canali copiati alla nostra laguna e le gondole (si proprio uguali a quelle vere!), ma l’atmosfera che si respira nella settimana della Congressional Cup è veramente straordinaria!
Il clima quest’anno non è proprio primaverile ma quando splende il sole e si regata davanti ad una spiaggia piena di casette vista oceano…Viene voglia di venirci ad abitare.
Allo yacht club (ma anche camminando per strada) tutti ti chiedono di come è andata la regata e di come le hanno viste loro dal pontile. E se ti trovi nella zona del bancone del bar, non puoi rimanere senza un drink in mano senza che qualcuno dei soci ti offra da bere, Solitamente nei match race si regata un pò a singhiozzo, tra cambi barca e turni di riposo. Qui la musica è diversa: dieci barche esattamente uguali ( un pò datate…ma chissenefrega, vanno tutte uguali!) e un comitato che non sbaglia di un grado le linee di partenza e le boe di bolina.
Tra un time on distance ed una lay line da provare prima della partenza si levava un fumo sospetto dalla poppa della barca comitato… Subito mi precipito sottocoperta e tiro fuori il mio i-phone per immortalare il momento. La sequenza delle partenze era già in atto e sulla griglia a poppa cuocevano delle gloriose salsicce! Dalla nostra barca si leva un grido di giubilo! Mitici.

Per la cronaca sei flight disputati nel primo giorno di regate.
In cima alla classifica i tre più alti nella ranking mondiale qui presenti.

La strada per le semifinali è ancora lunga, il comitato di regata non pensa solo alla griglia, ma anche a far disputare due round robin completi.”

Abbiamo ricevuto pochi istanti fa la meravigliosa notizia della nascita di ALLEGRA, primogenita di Rachele Vitello e Matteo Auguadro, pare che la ragazza oltre a stare benissimo sia una stupenda capellona.

Dunque Benvenuta tra noi ALLEGRA, Allegria per tutti e un forte abbraccio a Matte e Rachele da parte di tutti noi…

A Marsiglia nella prima tappa del WMRT vince a sorpresa Mathieu Richard,(French Match Racing Team) con un secco 2 a 0 in finale, su Ben Ainslie (TeamOrigin).

Ottimo il comportamento dei nostri. Francesco Bruni con i ragazzi dell’Azzurra Team (Gabriele Bruni, Pierluigi De Felice, Matteo Auguadro) conquista il terzo posto e continua la sua favolosa serie che lo sta proiettando ai vertici del match race mondiale dopo la vittoria alla Congressional Cup.

Quarto posto per Paolo Cian (Team Shosholoza) con a bordo il fedele Pier Luigi Fornelli e due nostre “vecchie” conoscenze Enrico Zennaro , Gaetano Figlia Di Granara.

Già iniziato il count down per la prossima tappa dal 19 al 24 maggio sul Lago di Costanza a Langenargen.

Match Race France, Stage 1 of the ISAF World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) has put a new twist on an ancient maritime tale. The scenario of English sailors battling French sailors is reminiscent of the famed 1805 Battle of Trafalgar when UK’s Lord Nelson defeated Emperor Napoleon of France. Ben Ainslie (GBR) TEAMORIGIN took on Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team, the French local, Richard, took a convincing victory winning both of the final two matches raced under a testing 6-7 knot westerly. Richard celebrated with local Marseille supporters, who were quick to take to the water in boats of all sizes.

Mathieu Richard, who is also tactician for the French America’s Cup syndicate, Aleph, was in jubilant form with the back drop of Queen’s notorious lyrics playing ‘We are the Champions’, “it is really great to win Stage 1 of the 2010 ISAF World Match Racing Tour, we are very happy to have won here in Marseille. We had a slow start to the regatta, but a slow start motivates you to really improve when it counts. My team worked fantastically with great communication and tactics”.

Ainslie sees his time invested in attending WMRT events as a profitable way to keep his match race training fresh, “My ultimate goal for the ISAF World Match Racing Tour events is to improve my match racing skills and rules knowledge”. The Tour forms an important ingredient in Ainslie’s long term America’s Cup ambition with TEAMORIGIN.

For Richard, instead of winning back trade routes through lifting sea blockades as in the 1800s, today’s victor heads home from Match Race France with a prize packet of 10,000 Euros. This is a very lucrative reward for five days of racing against some of the world’s most esteemed match racers and also provides the French Match Racing Team with 25 points in pursuit of the ultimate ISAF Match Racing World Championship title.

This French event has seen a significant elevation of the Tour’s profile across social media networks, the communication channel now essential in satisfying the public’s thirst for ‘real time’ sports results. The live blog, newly introduced to the WMRT media machine this year, has been a certain success. It has formed the engine to accelerate the Tour into virtual on line conversations through tweets and Facebook Wall posts. A one hour television show on Match Race France is also being broadcast internationally later this month.

The beach based prize giving closes Stage 1 of the 2010 World Match Racing Tour and leads us into the 9 remaining Stages around the globe. Stage 2 of the WMRT will be run in Langenargen, Germany 19 – 24 May where Mathieu Richard (FRA) French Match Racing Team will again be racing.

London, UK, 5 April 2010 – Twelve skippers ranging in talent, age and experience are headed to Yacht Club Pointe Rouge, Southern France this week for the official start of the 2010 World Match Racing Tour (WMRT). Much anticipated by fans and sailors alike, the first of this 10 event global series starts in Marseille and will count towards points for the ultimate prize of becoming the 2010 ISAF World Match Racing Champion. The question on everyone’s lips this April is, who will be the favourite to win “Match Race France”?

With a daunting line up of skippers including seasoned World Champions, Olympic medal holders and adrenalin-fuelled youngsters, any skipper lining up to perform pre-start tactics will have to be confident of their match racing prowess and boat handling abilities onboard the J80 yachts. Tipped to win and “dark horse of the Tour” is new entrant, Francesco Bruni (ITA) who has recently won the Congressional Cup, while competitors should pay note of re-emerging helms such as Bertrand Pacé racing on the waters of his home nation.

All teams including the new wild card entries will be up against the 2010 Tour Card Holders: Adam Minoprio (NZL), Torvar Mirsky (AUS), and Ben Ainslie (GBR) who finished in the top 3 standings during the 2009 Tour and have been actively training with their chosen teams prior to Match Race France.

Italian match racer, Francesco Bruni (ITA) is the newest world-class sailor to the World Match Racing Tour line up and is a favourite to win at Marseille. Having already completed an outstanding dinghy and yacht racing career with Olympic representation in 3 disciplines and podium placing in the Farr 40 and Melges fleets, Bruni is now skipper for Azzurra Team, the Italian America’s Cup team which is making convincing wins at match race events.

Bruni will be up against France’s Bertrand Pacé, a legend in the world of match racing, who has had a break of five years from the WMRT. Pacé is one of the few to receive a 2010 Tour Card so is guaranteed to race in at least 6 of the Tour events this year. Competing skippers will be contending against his illustrious sailing career which won the WMRT Champion in 2000, multiple Tour de France à la Voile victories and an amazing 6 America’s Cup campaigns to date.

Seen as the “sailing hub of Southern France” Marseille offers excellent match racing conditions with excellent spectator opportunities. The J80 will provide a lively model for the skippers to race. A small keelboat launched by J Boats Company, the style works for dinghy sailors as well as big boat racers making tight boat manoeuvring during the pre-start achievable for all skippers. The cockpit is also spacious for the four person crew to perform their jobs to the best of their ability, involving constant alteration of sails, body weight and vantage points to see the competing boat’s next move. The J80’s will be raced asymmetrically for this event so it will be interesting to see if those skippers who have previous asymmetric experience will have an advantage on the downhill legs.

The skipper to win the first event of this leading professional sailing series will come down to an interaction of factors said Peter Gilmour, Acting President of World Match Racing Tour. “Match Race France is a competition that any of the 12 teams could win. We have seen a range of different forms of pre-Tour preparation this year and it will be interesting for the whole sailing community to see if hard training over the winter period with previously selected teams as a strategy wins over those re-freshed by an absence from relentless global regattas”.
